Vientiane: Unnecessary, but not Unpleasant

If you were wondering which is the world’s most boring capital, look no further! Laos has more than a fair share of scenic, fascinating, eye-popping destination, but the nation’s city #1 ain’t no one of them. Lonely Planet offered that Vientiane doesn’t show its beauty quite as readily as Luang Prabang. More like never.

There’s nothing about the town that would make it a standout experience on anyone’s itinerary, unless, of course, you’re searching for a truly bizarre movie-going experience. In which case I suggest you check out one of the Lao-ITECC’s 4 halls: low budget Thai movies with Laotian subtitles and boiled corn instead of ‘pop’ – believe you me, there’s nothing like it!

And yet, Vientiane is anything but unpleasant. Fairly clean streets (by Asian urban standards at least), a somewhat ugly, but breezy riverside, same fabulous Lao coffee and cheap bicycle rent make it a welcome stopover on the way further south.

  1. For the most boring capital, I recommend you Nuku’alofa in Tonga. There is really nothing :) )

  2. Not even a movie theater with Tonga films?!
